A Prince Brings Out Italian Fashion Royalty
On an early spring evening, Madison Avenue was buzzing with electric energy, and the reason was one of the city’s most gregarious figures: Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia. The European aristocrat was being feted by Italian fashion house Etrowith a cocktail party highlighting his latest collection, which featured a fine jewelry spin on the label’s signature paisley motif. And taking in the chic surroundings was a who’s who of haute uptown glamour, including Marjorie Gubelmann—pulling double duty spinning tracks!—and Jennifer Creel. But it was Jacopo Etro, who hadn’t been to New York in more than a decade, who was most at home. Leave it to a fashionable prince to make the king of bold Italian fashion come to Manhattan.
